Cupcake Wars Winner Donates All to DC House of Ruth

ABW’s charity cooking challenge, Cupcake Wars, raised $9,500 for donation.

 Thankful tabw cupcake wars check presentationo our communities that have supported our growth we want to show our appreciation. Our answer is to host charity cooking challenges. In doing so we bring awareness to local issues, raise money for charity, and open our luxury showroom for an evening of goodwill and friendly competition. What makes the competition unique is the winner of the cooking challenge selects the organization to receive all funds raised during the event. These teams are not only cooking for boasting rights they are cooking to make the world a better place.

Our most recent charity cooking challenge, Cupcake Wars, raised $9,500 for donation. Teams had access to high-end luxury appliances such as Wolf, Sub-Zero, Thermador, Blue Star, and Viking. During the evening each team had to bake and present five dozen cupcakes. Guest judges, including Lauren Katz winner of ABC Great Holiday Baking Show, judged the cakes on taste, originality, and presentation. The winner: The Cupcake Divas and their Happy Spring Cupcake. They selected House of Ruth as this year’s recipient.

At  the check presentation, when asked why they chose House of Ruth Cupcake Diva’s team member Thao Tambunan replied, “ I wanted a local charity, and I previously worked on the CFL campaign, and I support the cause to help women.” Stephanie Covey, House of Ruth Development Officer, expressed her appreciation for the donation. House of Ruth serves over 1,000 clients a year with their first and foremost goal of providing a stable home environment and help towards an independent life for women and their families. Brooke Chandler, ABW Appliances Service Director, and Cupcake Wars spokesperson added, “We make a living by what you get, but we make a life by what we give. I am so fortunate to work someplace that recognizes both sides of this equation and enables their employees to make a difference in the community.  Meeting the compassionate people who work for House of Ruth yesterday not only reminded us all to be so thankful for our many blessings in life, but to be thankful for those who reach out to help those that are struggling, no matter what the reason may be.”

ABW Appliances is looking forward to our next charity cooking challenge, Chopped for Charity on September 22, 2016. This challenge may have some stiff competition as Viking Range has announced celebrity Chef Joe Arvin as their contender.
