The ABW story began in 1958 when Mr. Dhyani came to America to find a better way of life for himself and his family. After completing his Master’s degree at American University, he began a moving and storage company that sold American made appliances to countries all around the world.
His son, Bob Dhyani, took ABW Appliances in a different direction in the late ’80s. Still selling appliances – but with a focus on selling luxury appliances to homebuilders. The original DC office closed and Bob turned the existing Silver Spring, MD warehouse into an appliance showroom.
As a small local appliance dealer, he forged strong relationships with other local businesses. The company grew steadily using purely its positive reputation, enabling expansion and the opening of the second location in Rockville. This appliance showroom became an excellent resource for the end user. Now the company was able to serve homeowners as well as the trade community.
Bob semi-retired in the late 1990s and ABW continued to grow. The company moved into Northern, VA with openings in Ashburn and Arlington. During this time the company began a service department to provide the best customer service to their clients. By creating their own Gourmet Demo Division, the company extended their reach by offering complimentary cooking demonstrations and hosting numerous events during the year.
Today, ABW Appliances has five locations and provides in-house delivery, installation, repairs, and parts. If you are in the multi-building industry, you can expect a personal visit from a Builder Development (BDG) team member. They are the experts in the building trade industry with the sole focus of catering to builder needs. You can also join the fun with ABW at several DC culinary events, including Capital Food Fight, DC Metro Cooking, and Taste of DC.
